Mejia, 5 leagues below Isleta. San Bautista, on the Rio Grande, 16 miles below Sevilleta. All the above pueblos not definitely located were probably situated in the Salinas in the vicinity of Abo. The first actual mission work among the Piros of the Salinas began in and was prosecuted rapidly, but before the Pueblo rebellion of Apache raids had become so numerous that all of the villages of the Salinas region and Senecu on the Rio Grande were abandoned. The Piro were not invited to take part in the great rebellion and when Governor Otermin retreated to El Paso nearly all of them joined him, while the few who remained subsequently scattered. Those who accompanied the governor were settled at Senecu del Sur and Socorro del Sur, where their descendants became largely Mexicanized. A general name for those Indians in the Southwest who dwelt in stone buildings as opposed to the tribes living in more fragile shelters, pueblo being the word for “town” or “village” in Spanish. It is not a tribal or even a stock name, since the Pueblos belonged to four distinct stocks.

It has been named Phoenician Rock or the Commandment Stone. It is called today Inscription rock. The strange chiseled characters on the volcanic basalt rock were undecipherable by America’s early European settlers and to the “native” Indians. Hence, the mountain’s name – Mystery. The local residents had been made aware, by the Indians, of the unusual inscription as early as the year Why is this rock causing such excitement?
The ancient Hebrew inscriptions were once thought to be a combination of Greek, Hebrew and Phoenician characters but now are clearly seen as a form of Hebrew writing dating to approximately B. The Greeks “borrowed” from the Phonetic alphabet so the characters would be familiar. The Hebrews and the Phoenicians were neighbors which, in their trading environment, shared the same language and alphabet.
The style of the characters is strikingly similar, almost identical, to that used on the Moabite Stone in the days of the Israelite kings Omri and Ahab. The Moab stone was engraved by captive Israelites for the Moabite king, Mescha, as per its own inscription.
The stone was first translated by Dr. Robert Pfeiffer of Harvard in and was confirmed to be a slightly truncated form of the Ten Commandments. Initially, I suspected a forgery however my subsequent research revealed ample evidence of Semitic influence in pre Columbian America.

Discovery[ edit ] The Decalogue The first of these artifacts, popularly known as the Keystone due to its shape, was excavated in June Unlike other ancient artifacts found previously in this region, the Keystone was inscribed with Hebrew. Holy of Holies The Law of God The Word of God The second find came later in November when Wyrick and his excavation team came across a sandstone box which contained a small, black rock within it.
The inscription begins on the front at the top of an arch above the figure of a bearded man who is wearing a turban, robe, and appears to be holding a tablet. It runs down the left side, continues around all sides, and makes its way back to the front up the right side to where it began. This pattern indicates that the inscription was meant to be read repetitively.
